About Us

The White Dog is owned by Barry Pruitt. Barry has been a fixture in Richmond restauranting for over fifteen years, first as co-owner of Davis & Main and Sante Fe restaurants, then of Avenue 805, and now The White Dog. He is also the bartender so you know who to talk to if you have any special requests.

You may notice the original art work hanging on the walls of The White Dog. These were all painted by Barry's wife, Roslyn, and are for sale. If you see one you are specially interested in, move fast because they change on a regular basis. Roslyn also some evenings serves as hostess and waitress at The White Dog.

Who is "The White Dog?" Several years ago Barry and Roslyn felt that there was a certain emptiness in their lives that could only be filled with a puppy. A quick visit to the Richmond Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) and they had a cute mixed-bred with long white hair: Max.

When Roslyn and Barry were about to open The White Dog for Max, they chose as its logo "Camembert", an adorable little white dog created by Rosyln's friend Ron Berg of New York. He created the artwork and has Copyrighted the image. We thank him for generously allowing us to use it. The "Dog" was created by Ron for a childrens book several years ago. Some of the original artwork from this book is on display at The White Dog.

Barry, Roslyn, and Max feel a special affinity to those wonderful search dogs who helped to recovery victims of the September 11th attacks. They have recently donated 10 percent of their food sales to the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation.
